Maths Vocabulary

In maths Mia and I did a poster about addition. the focus for this was maths words. We had to do a poster and show it to another class that was having trouble with the words in maths and what they mean. You were allowed to do your poster on subtraction, addition, multiplication or division. We chose addition for our poster. The poster had to have lots of the words about the subject and three word problems containing three different words from that subject.

Here is my poster:

Cheetahs

Cheetahs don’t actually cheat in your ordinary game of cards. They are actually part of the cat family so they are mammals. Even though they are big they are just an oversized cat that can run faster and hunt for their food. If you want to look into the cheetahs more read my report.

Once the cheetah mum is pregnant they will wait 90-95 days. After that she will give birth to approximately 3-4 cheetah cubs. The baby cubs will weigh 250g after they are born. The mother cheetah stays with cubs until they are 18 months old then the mothers will chase the cubs off. Cheetahs can live up to 10-20 years, but they only really live up to 8 years.

The cheetahs diet starts out with milk. They drink milk for up to 3-6 months. Then the cheetah cub starts eating meat and learns from their mothers to hunt and survive. The adult cheetahs diet contains gazelles, wildebeest calves, rabbits, birds, hares, antelopes and warthogs.

The cheetahs live in Sub-Saharan Africa. So that means dry open grasslands where they can use there fast legs to easily catch their prey. But these beautiful creatures are on the verge of becoming extinct because of us. Yes, humans are increasing and destroying the cheetahs home and so that means cheetahs are decreasing.

Cheetahs are wild beautiful animals so here are some things you can do to save there home and from them becoming exctinct. Keep informed and give money to the national geographic big cats initiative. Now you know why cheetahs are my favourite animal.

My Holiday

Last week my sister had her schools ski champs. I was allowed to go to because even though I wasn't in the competition I would have still been allowed to ski. It was a 15 minute walk up to the lodge. When we got up there we saw my sister who went up with John a couple days before and she gave us a tour of the lodge. In the morning we found out that the whole ski comp had been cancelled. So we spent the rest of the time we had there playing in the snow and making snow slushies.

God

In RE we are focusing on God.  In my title page I included stars and light to show Gods creations. I also included God holding earth with purple robes to represent royalty. We have started in RE looking at promises and the promise God made to us.

Gymnastics

Yesterday a group of year 5 and 6 students went to the gymnastics competition. We started with our floor routine which I think was my best apparatus. Then we moved on to beam and then vault. After the competition we had to sit through the prize-giving. The year 5 boys team got first place and two of the year 5 boys got 4th and 1st equal. It was such a fun day even though I did get a bit nervous and the girls team didn't get any prizes.

The Turtles of Namuana

In reading we read some of the old Pacific myths and legends. We chose one of the myths from Fiji and made it into a slide containing snippets of the story. I did my slide with my two best friends. We did this myth because we love turtles and it interested us. This is my slide show on the Turtles of Namuana.

Water Colors

This term we are learning science. In our last science session we tried to guess if wet paper towels absorb water faster or if dry paper towels absorb water faster. We left the paper towels with the tips of the towels in the colored water. After lunch we came back in to class and saw that the dry paper towels absorb the water faster. This is because the wet towels already had water socked in them so it was harder for them to absorb more water, but the dry towels could absorb water faster because they are already dry so they can absorb the water faster.   This is a photo of our experiment.
